Katherine Paterson, KAATII
Deep Ellum Art Company Presents: Katherine Paterson, KAATII
Paterson first began writing songs as gifts for far-flung companions. This evolved into a practice of using writing as a way to navigate life’s myriad moments–especially the more difficult ones. A homing beacon of sorts, Paterson’s music invites you to come find her among past selves, loved ones, grief, dreams, and plants. Her intimate storytelling is a direct result of her admiration for the songwriting craft of luminaries like Joni Mitchell and Brandi Carlile. As Krister Axel of CHILLFILTR puts it, “Katherine deftly navigates the universal touchstones of human existence with originality and poise.” Paterson’s debut album, “Wake,” moves through loss, reconciliation, and release. It is a plea, a wake, a celebration, a memory, a beginning, and an ending. Produced by Chris Peters, the album features performances by singer/songwriter Lilly Lane, Sofía Campoamor, and others.
After moving to Dallas in 2020, Paterson began performing solo and with her bands Doggerland and very good friends. She has played with Sofar Sounds and performed at Rockwood Music Hall, Poor David’s Pub, Opening Bell Coffee, and more. Her music has been featured on KXT, KOOP, and various blogs.

At 17 years old, Kaatii calls the shots. While most teens spend their free time at the mall or watching movies, Kaatii is busy making music that’s featured on the CW33, KXT 91.7 FM, Wish 107.5 LA and a variety of music industry tastemaker publications such as Rolling Stone IN, Dallas Observer, Flaunt Magazine, VENTS, PopMatters and Music Connection Magazine. They are consistently in the studio, writing solo as well as with artists twice their age, and working on their craft. Kaatii’s singles have amassed over 500k Spotify streams to date. Kaatii, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, is a junior at the prestigious Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in the guitar program and released their debut EP, “Catharsis on my Bedroom Floor” last Fall. The album is a collection of introspective songs that explore the intricacies of mental health and healing. The songs experiment with an indie-folk style with deeply meaningful and personal lyricism. Co-written with Kara Connolly and produced by Andrew Heringer (Milo Greene, The Guest and the Host) with string arrangements from Jordan Lehning. As Unheard Gems puts it, “Emerging artist Kaatii is proving they are wise and talented beyond their years…with a voice that has a sort of confidence and clarity that you might expect from a more established artist…Kaatii is guaranteed to be an absolute indie pop powerhouse if they keep up this kind of work.”
